Kano, pulled from my big-ass KH fic FtPverse, sometime after the series ended.
Manifestation of Sora’s darkness that gained a personality and free will. He’s his own person now, it’s fine!! Taken from FtPverse, sometime after the series ended.
Ranged fighter, semi-decent DPS, strong magic. Physically 16, has only been around for 2 years.
He befriended Kairi on accident, curiosity turning into appreciating having someone interact with him on friendly terms, turning into his only anchor when Maleficent obscures Sora from his reach. As you can imagine, living without the person your literal existence revolves around is... difficult, at best. And somewhere in losing Sora he realized that this was unbearable, and if he succeeded in dragging Sora into darkness, it was either continue existing without him (hell) or not continue existing at all (terrifying).
And when Sora, being Sora, was willing to try and understand him, and give him several second chances? Yeah, maybe falling in love was inevitable.
The good news about Kingdom Hearts is if a thing grows a heart when it wasn't supposed to, well, now it has free will, because hearts are fucky bastards. Congrats on the free natural law breaking, Kano, and also the new name that they get to workshop in canon. He and Sora bodyshare for a while, also, though they also eventually get separate bodies. And start dating. Lol.
Kano’s still got some “forgiving himself” and “learning how to people” ahead of him, though. Thankfully he not only has Sora to help (and all of Sora's friends frankly, they like him) but he also has Kairi specifically who, after a rough patch post the betrayal thing in DI but eventual reconciliation in ATR and all this post ATR time they've undoubtedly spent getting closer... Well, she means a lot to him, okay. She was his first real friend. And it's nice having someone who's a little more grounded and realistic about your flaws sometimes.
This ended up being more relevant than anticipated and also DYWC assumes about a year post ATR that they've spent working out more of the rough spots in a relationship so I'm mentioning it here, especially since it's not really a thing people who've read FtPverse would be totally aware of... even if it probably also shouldn't come as a surprise to them lol.
(Kano also used to be known as "Shad" in meta before he finally got to choose a name in canon. Idk if that'll come up but Just So You Know.)

Kano spends the first half of this fic offscreen, having met up with Kairi (thank god, a familiar face) and Fiora (not familiar, kind of weird given the bodysharing, but mood he guesses??)
