Kratos, from act 2 of Tales of Symphonia. Post Tower of Salvation. Pre Flanoir.
Human turned Angel. Party reluctant dad. DPS if he's not holding back. Occasional healer. Physically 28, chronologically over 4000.
Mithos was granted godly power, and used it to split the world in two—the only way for the war to finally end. Drastic times call for drastic measures, etc. And times only got more drastic when humanity killed Martel before they could move along with restoring the world's mana. Mad with grief, Mithos gave up on saving the world entirely, and only put his effort into resurrecting Martel, and resurrecting Martel only.
The means they went to do this were not, exactly, considered "good". Sacrificing generations upon generations of young men and women to serve as a new vessel for Martel, And Also The Human Experimentation Bullshit, Which I Don't Know How Is Related, But Sure Did Happen. Ruling the world with an iron fist! And, mostly in Kratos' case; standing behind Mithos as his servant and shadow, letting his brother grind the world to dust if only it meant Martel would return to them.
Of course, none of them were mortal any longer. They had all become angels: beings who cannot age, beings who do not feel pain, beings of incredible power. And no man is meant to live for as long as they had lived-- madness was bound to take them all. And it did, after a fashion, but Mithos especially.
Anyway to keep this short: Kratos fucked off long enough to meet one Anna Irving, a human woman who'd escaped from the Human Experimentation Bullshit and with whom he eventually fell in love with. I have a lot of headcanons here but it's mostly [resistance noises] [torching desian noises] ["no Kratos i refuse to RUN" noises] but the point is they were very much in love and Kratos was rethinking his decisions and thinking maybe he should put an end to Mithos' bullshit, but by this point he and Anna have had a son -- Lloyd -- and maybe need to worry about raising him before they can plot any coups.
And Then Bad Shit Happens Because The Desians Suck And Mithos Is A Bastard And Anyway Anna Dies and As Far As Kratos Is Aware, So Does Lloyd.
Cue 15 years of depression until ToSymphonia itself starts. Tasked with escorting the next potential vessel for Martel to become the vessel, Kratos hates his life and also Oh God, His Son Is Alive And Also Here? It's complicated. He betrays the party. He hates his life. He can't tell Lloyd that he's his dad. He is suffering. Yuan is laughing at him. Mithos is breathing down his neck. His son is going to die unless he plays nice. Someone fucking help him.
Oh, and I pulled Kratos from Act 2 of Symphonia, which means I don't have to recount the whole ending. thank FUCKING god.
So yeah he betrayed the party and rejoined Mithos and is doing his best to double agent this mess and make sure not everything goes to shit and Lloyd lives, hopefully. He's questing around to get Lloyd the means to undo what Mithos has done to the world, and also is choosing to force the task of killing Mithos off onto... Lloyd and his friends, probably, because even after four thousand years Kratos cannot kill his brother.
He's Very Upset And Stressed That He Got Yanked From In The Middle Of That Quest. If he doesn't go home, Mithos could decide to kill Lloyd. If he doesn't go home, Lloyd has no chance of winning, unless Yuan decides to step in (debatable) (Kratos' closest brother loves him but also despises most of his life choices. Whoops!)
Very Importantly this means that Mithos is still alive, Kratos is convinced that the only way to fix the world is to sacrifice himself, and that half of the stuff the WBYWKON cast is mad at him for hasn't quite happened yet. But I sure wrote an entire two fics on that topic (ironworks and finesse) so there’s no point recounting it here.
Kratos wakes up in another world and is Very Stressed about not being home. Also there is too much bullshit going on for him to enjoy. All these people. All these kids. Too much attempted murder. Can he PLEASE just go home.⇢ another soul (interlude)
Kratos Contemplates More About The Being On The Wrong World And Stressed About It Thing.⇢ of loss, of grief, of hope
Kratos and Dracula (Soma tagging along) talk about the people they've lost, the people they're grieving, and bond. Aka Dead Wives Club.⇢ my heart is housed in ironworks
Kratos meets an alternate universe version of himself. Bafflingly, the other Kratos seems to hate him. He understands, because mood, but these accusations were not what he was expecting.⇢ ther must be some finesse
Kratos meets with an alternate universe version of his dead wife, and also his younger brother. His younger brother hates him. Wild. His wife... well, she has some things to say, about Lloyd.⇢ Never Have I Ever.
Team F plays Never Have I Ever. Kratos wishes he was drunker than he's getting.⇢ conditional immortality
Team F discusses Jade's conditional immortality. Kratos talks her and Soma out of doing something incredibly dumb.⇢ tomatoes
Kratos and Shulk bond over a shared hated vegetable.
